Fr. Joseph Lehman, T.O.R. - Giving Tuesday Message
Giving Tuesday is on December 1 this year. Over the past several years, this has become the traditional day to make online charitable gifts in honor of the holidays, and to encourage our friends on social media to do the same.
The idea is to put the focus back on the Christmas virtues of charity and kindness, alongside the materialism of “Black Friday” and “Cyber Monday.” In 2019, almost two billion dollars was raised for charity on this day.
As we have in years past, the Franciscan Friars, T.O.R. will be participating in Giving Tuesday. We invite our friends to visit our secure website on that day, make an offering, and then post the link to your social media accounts.
This year, our goal is to raise $8,500 on Giving Tuesday, all of which will be used to purchase furniture for our newly constructed St. Francis School and Day Care Center in Dinajpur, a rural district in northern Bangladesh.
The construction of the school was overseen by Fr. Francis Marandy, T.O.R., Minister Provincial of our delegation in Bangladesh. The funds will be used to purchase desks, chairs, tables, benches and cabinets in order to begin offering classes and activities. The children will receive education and care while their parents will be able to work.
