Historically speaking, the ministry of the Sacred Heart Province has been rooted in the works of mercy--particularly in the area of parochial and university education. But over time, God has opened new doors, inviting the friars into parish ministry throughout the United States in areas where a Franciscan presence is most needed.
Ask anyone who has ever attended a parish church run by the T.O.R. friars and he or she will likely tell you: there is something different about the way the Francsicans do parish ministry. Our community places a strong emphasis on the fraternal life of the friars serving together at each of our parishes--a concentration which bears great fruit. Communal prayer and meals shared among the brothers stationed at each parish are as much a part of our life and ministry as pastorally and sacramentally caring for the souls entrusted to us. Why? Because we recognize that all of our ministry flows from a strong communal life and a deep relationship with Our Lord in prayer. This is the wellspring from which our roots must gather sustenance.
